3.1 Web 2.0 Defined

What do we mean when we refer to something as Web 2.0?
Let's view a summary of our Science Learning Communities' understanding and readiness to create learning environments that make use of Web 2.0 tools and strategies. (Updated summary link 1/31/13 - RS)

3.2 Here's an excellent movie explaining wikis created by Common Craft. (3:36)
Note: They don't provide an embed code so we can just link directly to the web page.

Wikis can be used to embed content from other sites.
What makes the Flickr CAPS photo gallery a Web 2.0 tool?
Visit the CAPs photo gallery.

3.3 WIKI- Everyone in the project will be given a user account on the science community wikispaces.net site.
If you already have a Wikispaces.com it will NOT work on the our site. Our project has its own private label site.
a. Use the username and password given to login to the SLC wiki.
wikispaces.net URL - http://physics2.sciencecommunity.wikispaces.net
b. Change your password and verify your email address.
Use the Wiki Quick Start handout.
c. How to edit a page - guided demonstration
d. Adding files and photos - YouTube Video

e. How to embed an image - guided demonstration
Embed a Flickr photo from the CAPS gallery.
f. Hands On Activity 1 -Edit a wiki pageedit-it.jpg
You will be assigned a partner based on a random draw. Meet up with your partner. Share one computer/laptop for this activity.
Review the photo with your partner.
1. Create a group name based upon the corresponding photo number.
2. Write an engaging photo headline. Spend 10 minutes researching details about the photo.
  • Where was the photo taken?
  • Why was the photo taken?
  • How might the photo illustrate a concept in physics such as acceleration or gravity.
3. Post your group name and headline on your group wiki page.
